Academy PROGRAMME

  • Discover one of the most productive and biologically complex ecosystems on Earth. Whether it's a nursery ground for fish, a food source for monkeys, deers and tree-climbing crabs, or a nectar source for bats and honeybees, it’s all here. Be whisked from the hotel to Thailand’s first urban Nature Education Centre, Bang Pu, in true Peninsula style before entering another world of riotous nature and vital ecosystems. Guided by award-winning naturalists, we’ll both show you the beauty and invite you to help make a difference yourself by planting some tender new mangrove saplings. Meanwhile, you’ll be introduced to the bird, plant and insect population in addition to gaining insight into all the varieties of forest with which Thailand is covered. You’ll emerge not only invigorated by the fresh sea air but with a deeper appreciation of the importance of conservation and a holistic sense of being a part of nature with a vested interest in seeing its beauty and diversity nurtured and conserved in perpetuity.

  • What is the essence of Thainess? Certainly it is something rooted in religion, dramatic history and exquisite traditions, as well as openness to new ideas, accepting differences while treasuring courtesy, industry and heritage. It is a profound sense of playfulness and an eye for beauty and style. Uncovering it may take a lifetime or perhaps it can be done in just a day as a participant in The Peninsula Academy’s intriguing “Senses of Thainess” adventure. Join us on a voyage of discovery into the true heart of Thailand, intensely experienced through the human senses: taste, smell, touch, sight and hearing. Yes, “Senses of Thainess” is an intensive course on Thai classic and contemporary history and culture. But you will surely find it so exhilarating and delightful that it will hardly feel like any effort on your part at all. And by the time you finish, it will still only be the late afternoon.

  • Thai cooking blends several Asian elements and places emphasis on aromatic components. As with other Asian cuisines, balance, detail and variety are of great significance to Thai chefs. Thai food is known for its balance of five taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sweet, sour, salty, spicy and bitter.

Beyond the flavours and health benefits, Thai cuisine is made even more enticing by the elaborate art of food presentation. This ancient skill, still practiced today, is a beautiful demonstration of the convergence of Thai cuisine and culture. Intricate meals are garnished with flowers and masterfully carved fruit and vegetables to create edible works of art.
