Tastefully Thai, Tantalisingly Peninsula

Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles, and The Peninsula is presenting a season of classic Thai delights to bring joy to the faces of guests at each hotel around the world. “Tastefully Thai” is a three-month showcase of the very best of Thai cuisine, culture, art and wellness that has been created to support the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s new global tourism promotion campaign, and to encourage leisure and business visitors to experience the unique charms of The Peninsula Bangkok.

First impressions of Thailand are often infused by its fragrant cuisine, and two of The Peninsula’s renowned Thai chefs are taking their well-travelled woks on a world tour. Chamnan Thepchana, Chef of Thai Cuisine at The Peninsula Bangkok, and Chef Anuwat “Nu” Morakotjantachote, Executive Sous Chef at The Peninsula Chicago, will visit each Peninsula hotel for one week to prepare contemporary interpretations of traditional Thai dishes.

Diners at each hotel can savour Chef Nu and Chef Chamnan’s personal takes on Thai recipes passed down across the centuries by royal palace cooks. Menu highlights include Kang Keaw Wan Gai (fresh chicken in green curry), made with Michelin-starred chefs’ favourite ingredient, organic French “Bresse” chicken, and Tom Yum Goong (spicy and sour soup with seafood and lemongrass), a signature soup enhanced by highly prized Brittany Blue lobsters.

Tantalising Thai culinary culture is also the inspiration for a South East Asian makeover of the famous Peninsula Afternoon Tea. Each hotel will serve a tiered silver platter of Thai sweet pastries and savoury delicacies accompanied by traditional Thai iced tea. In the evening, a Thai tropical fruit surprise awaits guests in their room, with special turndown treats including mango sticky rice and mango macarons.

In addition to its exotic flavours, friendly smiles, beautiful beaches, ancient temples and charismatic tuk-tuk drivers, Thailand is recognised as a haven of Oriental wellness. Guests at each Peninsula Spa can indulge body and mind with a therapeutic 80-minute Simply Peninsula Royal Thai body massage, and a 110-minute Simply Peninsula Royal Thai Massage with Herbal Compress.

These exclusive new massage treatments are introduced in partnership with the Wat Pho Temple Traditional Medical and Massage School in Bangkok, which is celebrated for its health-giving massage techniques based on ancient Thai philosophies of physical and mental wellbeing. The Peninsula Hotels and Wat Pho Temple have also created a Thai Massage teaching programme enabling Peninsula Spa therapists to learn timeless Thai massage techniques in an exclusive environment.

Another of Thailand’s distinctive attractions is its variety of indigenous wildlife, of which the elephant is the most iconic, and a colourful caravan of baby jumbos is sure to delight guests of all ages. Created by emerging and established artists for the Elephant Parade charity, the hand-painted baby elephant statues on display at each hotel are unique works of art. After each exhibition, some of the ornaments will be auctioned to support elephant conservation projects in Thailand. The Elephant Parade’s flagship store is located at The Peninsula Bangkok, and The Peninsula Hotels will be a proud partner for the upcoming Elephant Parade in Bangkok in December 2015.
